General information about fish nutrition

The art of fishing with the simplest of Amateur gear, the ability to use more complex, knowledge of methods, techniques of fishing and suggest a sensible use various natural of feed to attract fish to the hooks (nozzles, bait) or tame them to specific places (the bait). This obliges the fishermen to know General patterns of fish feeding, methods of finding and getting their food, as well as the impact on the biting activity have some other factors. It is known that each species feeds on certain forage organisms and, depending on the type of food and ways of getting to or from the diet, fish are divided into predatory and “peaceful”. The fish feed mainly on prey, and typical of them are catfish and pike – the inhabitants of freshwater bodies.

Among the “peaceful” fish allot of benthos feeders, herbivorous and planktophagous. Benthos feeders are fish that eat mainly various crustaceans, worms, insect larvae, mollusks and other invertebrates inhabiting the bottom of the reservoir.

Planktology feed mainly on plankton, i.e. plant and animal organisms that spend their entire lives in the water in suspension and are moved passively.

Herbivores eat vegetation preimushestvenno. Such fish include silver carp, grass carp, Rudd and others.

Such division is somewhat arbitrary, because many fish feed on mixed food, but some, such as carp, generally omnivorous.

Fish, find food and recognize through the senses: vision, lateral line, smell, touch, taste. In this case, each species of fish has the most developed organs that are used most often in the search for and determination of suitability as food. On the basis of many observations and of many experiments derived regularities characterizing the degree of participation of the different sense organs of some fishes when searching for food (table. 1).
